Another Halloween Success

It was hard to think of something creative this year that would top our great Troll Doll outfit (SEE BELOW), but we came up with something, and it paid off!

We won Best Costume this year at our company party for our Tetris pieces. We used wrapping paper, 4 rolls of black duct tape and 4 cardboard boxes, it lasted pretty well throughout the night. It was a little bulky and hot, but we got so many compliments and praises, it was well worth it for a few hours! People loved us!

Chinese New Year (A First!)

It’s the Year of the Rabbit, friends! Check out my new friend Monique’s food blog below and see some fabulous pictures of my very first Chinese New Year dim sum in Chinatown this past weekend! A co-worker and her lovely parents were kind enough to show a few friends and myself a tradition that they’ve celebrated for years.

I may have been the only blonde in the place but the folks at my table were impressed at my openmindedness to try anything handed to me!

FOOD SNOB BLOG POST

Such a wonderful experience and was in no way like the take-out place you order from on the corner – awesome, fresh, non-heavy Chinese food. I didn’t feel like I was going to throw up or fall asleep after that meal. Definitely recommend this restaurant we went to, good times, good company, good food!

A discussion came up at work about people that have their own blog. A perplexed co-worker had asked our group at lunch, “Do you guys have a blog? What do you blog about?”

A few of us chimed in and said, “Of course we have blogs, it’s 2010! Who doesn’t?” The beauty about having your own blog is that it’s yours, you can blog about anything you want. Music, fashion, diet, sex, jobs, friends, money, love. Anything.

I thought about how important establishing an internet presence was to me when I was applying for jobs around New York City, I figure it can show employers that you’re internet savvy and up with the latest online trends. Check out me elsewhere on the World Wide Web:

Outdoor Adventures

The weather has been so wonderful. I’ve been fortunate enough to have some great coworkers and family that have been game to take advantage of the cooler air on the East coast lately. A few weekends ago, a group of us traveled about 2 and a half hours outside of New York City to Jim Thorpe, PA and spent the day rafting down the Lehigh River. We had a great time! It was nice to spend a full day on the water, which was so cold and refreshing, and we had a lot of laughs. A few scares even, one of the girls fell out of the boat when we hit a rough patch on the water and we quick pulled her back in by her life jacket!

This weekend, my family is getting together for our second annual bike tour in NYC. Last year, we met on the Upper East Side and spent the morning biking along the East River, over to Randall’s Island and through Central Park.

About fifteen of us took to the streets of the city and braved the pedestrians and taxis! This year, our route looks like it’s going to take us downtown. I’m looking forward to it!

I’m back after a nice long weekend in Chicago – my first trip to the famous ‘Windy City.’ Absolutely in love with the architecture, Lake Michigan and the Chicago River running right through the center of downtown, so beautiful. If I’d gone in the winter, maybe I’d be singing a different tune, however, it was so nice to be able to have the chance to visit the city during this window of warm weather.

Allow Me To Reintroduce Myself

Since I was a teenager, I fought with my hair. No, you don’t understand. I have very thick, wavy hair that is not easily styled. Flat iron after flat iron, curler after curler, trial and error.

I know exactly what brands are hot enough and durable enough to tame my head of hair. (I finally spent about $110 dollars on a CHI flat iron my freshman year of college and now swear by it).

As the years have gone by, I slowly accepted that I’d never have pin straight hair and embraced my curls. Ironically, now at 24, I don’t straighten my hair that often anymore.

When a friend’s sister offered to give me a great deal on a Keratin relaxing hair treatment, I absolutely accepted. Salons charge about $350 dollars for this service. It basically takes the frizz/volume out of your hair and can last up to 3 months if you maintain it properly.

So here it is – the before and after! Can you see the difference? Remember, buy special sulfate free shampoo and conditioner to help the after effects last longer. Normal shampoo will make it wash out much easier.

Overall, my level of frizz has gone way, way down along with the amount of time it takes me to style my hair. My hair is softer and smoother, I’m very happy with the results!

Restaurant Week in NYC

It’s been a week of new culinary adventures for me! I was invited by some friends to take advantage of Restaurant Week in NYC, where participating restaurants pre-fix their menus and offer guests a $35 fixed rate.

Last night, some co-workers and I headed to Mr. Chow for dinner in Tribeca. It’s a popular celeb scene but unfortunately, no sightings for us. However, the food was great! We split prawns, chicken satay, squab (yes, squab) with lettuce and noodles galore. The quality of the food and atmosphere was so lovely and absolutely worth the $35 per plate.

Tomorrow night, I’m keeping with the Asian Fusion theme and continuing on to Tao with some friends from college. Looking forward to it! Are you taking advantage of Restaurant Week?

My Underwater Soundtrack

I’ve been swimming a lot after work the past few weeks. I’m finding that it’s definitely making my physical body feel better, but I also feel mentally more relaxed and cleansed after a nice swim. Don’t you? (Also, sidenote, I love the smell of pool chlorine but we don’t need to get into that.)

I’m totally digging Fink – “This Is The Thing,” and have been using it as my imaginary underwater soundtrack while I swim a few laps. Try it, very zen!
